Who’s it for?

One question that has come up a few times in the last couple of weeks, regarding the Parish Festival – This is Your Church (April 26 – 28) is, “who’s it for?” Well the simplest answer is often the most correct; this Parish Festival is for you. This is your Church; this Church’s festival is for you.

Of course we want people who have been long time members. You possess a wit and a wisdom that is essential to moving forward as a parish carrying the best of what we have been. Besides, you have, over the years shown great love for this parish and the people who worship here. Your participation will be of immeasurable value for the festival.

And those of you who are new (actually and relatively and returning) will bring a perspective that will guide us towards an honest understanding of who we are. You will also help us move into the future with life and love. St. Paul’s may not have been a part of your past but we sure hope that St. Paul’s is a part of your future.

Young and old, and the inbetweeners, are all needed.

During last Sunday’s sermon I adlibbed the opening few paragraphs, with the hope of encouraging people to attend the Parish Festival. I said that one of the purposes of the Parish Festival is to “realign the power grid at St. Paul’s.” In other words, I hope we will seek the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit where the Holy Spirit normally resides, in the hearts, minds, bodies and souls of the gathered community. Again, that’s you.

So, St. Paul’s needs you, the Parish Festival needs you. You have God given spiritual gifts, gifts that can be used for the building up of the Body of Christ in the world, at least this portion of it, known as St. Paul’s Church, Charlottetown.
