Autumn Joy

Autumn is a favorite time of year for many people, myself included. It might be the fall colours, the harvest, the break from the summer’s heat, it might even be that nearly everything gets pumpkin spiced.

What ever it is that you enjoy about the Autumn I encourage you to enjoy it fully. I believe that it is God’s purpose that the joyfully things in life be enjoyed.

It is God’s hope that we enjoy that sunset, or that Bach concerto, or the laughter of children, or even that thing that has been pumpkin spiced. And that we should do so without reservation.

I know, I know: there is lots to worry us in this world, from climate change to political strife; from the economy to our own health (and that of loved ones). The twenty-four hour news cycle, now cycles every minute or so. We can’t avoid the grim news that plasters our lives, minute by minute. And I am in no way suggesting that we should avoid these many important issues. What I am saying is that we can seek balance.

We should learn about what’s going on in the world and we should take action and encourage our political, educational and industrial leaders to do the same. But to do so, to truly make a difference to all the issues we face we need balance.

To take the time to enjoy the enjoyable things in our lives helps strengthen us to tackle the challenges and overcome them.

So, savour the joys of this autumn, let the colours, smells, sounds invigorate the sold and empower us to seek God’s vision and live more fully in God’s way.
